The bioeconomy from an economic and social perspective

How is the transition to a sustainable and circular bioeconomy changing the economy, value creation and society? These and other questions will be addressed at the Bioeconomy Economics Conference 2026, which will take place from 28 to 30 September 2026 at the University of Passau.

The international conference brings together researchers working on the economic and social dimensions of the bioeconomy. Key topics include new bio-based products, processes and value chains, resource efficiency and climate protection, as well as governance, innovation and sustainable transformation processes.

The conference will examine the bioeconomy from a range of academic perspectives – from environmental, resource and agricultural economics, through development and behavioural economics, to interdisciplinary approaches.

The conference therefore offers stakeholders from the fields of research and the bioeconomy an opportunity to learn about current scientific approaches and debates, and to exchange views on the economic and social framework conditions of the bioeconomy.
