Biotechnology & Biomanufacturing

What opportunities for value creation do modern biotechnology methods offer us? Using everyday examples and use cases, we will introduce you to fermentation, protein engineering and the potential of biological adhesion mediators.

The bioeconomy in the plastics industry

From bioplastics to modified biomass: we provide a concise overview of the different types of bio-based polymers, as well as their properties and applications. We also examine the issue of degradability, as well as processing conditions.

Fibre-reinforced plastics

Composite materials made from fibres and a polymer matrix combine high mechanical strength with low material weight. We outline the potential for using bio-based and renewable fibres as an alternative to glass or carbon fibres, which are produced using energy-intensive processes.

The bioeconomy in the construction sector

Natural materials for greater sustainability and energy savings: We highlight the importance of a shift in thinking within the construction industry and showcase examples of materials and technologies. The content ranges from the use of organic insulation materials to cutting-edge technologies.

The bioeconomy in the automotive industry

Renewable raw materials in foams, rubber and textiles offer the potential to transform the automotive industry. We provide an overview of innovative approaches to bio-based solutions in the automotive sector, ranging from microalgae as raw material producers to rice husks in car tyres.
