Anchoring the bioeconomy at a regional level: lessons from the Straubing Competence Hub

With the publication of the new white paper “Building and Strengthening Regional Expertise – An Analysis of Good Practice at the Straubing Bioeconomy Competence Hub”, all interested parties now have access to an in-depth analysis of the development of regional bioeconomy expertise, based on a concrete example. The focus is on the Straubing region, which serves as an example of how an effective bioeconomy competence hub can develop over a long period of time.

The white paper examines how the interplay of policy decisions, scientific development, targeted infrastructure investment and dedicated networking has given rise to a clearly defined regional ecosystem. It becomes clear that successful bioeconomy regions do not follow a one-size-fits-all formula, but rather develop in line with their individual strengths, historical developments and situational opportunities.

Readers will find the following in the publication, amongst other things:

  • a structured analysis of the development and refinement of the Straubing Competence Hub,

  • insights into the stakeholder landscape, network dynamics and governance structures,

  • practical examples of communication, visibility and start-up support,

  • a SWOT analysis of the region, as well as

  • transferable lessons for regional development, business development and location marketing in the context of the industrial bioeconomy.

The white paper is aimed in particular at stakeholders involved in regional and local business development, cluster and regional development organisations, as well as industry and location managers who wish to tap into the potential of the bioeconomy or strategically develop existing activities.
