The “ProteinHub Deutschland Pro-to-X” project initiative offers partnerships for joint material innovations

Call for Partners

We are facing challenging times for the chemical industry in Germany: driving innovation to maintain competitiveness, despite increasingly frequent resource shortages – this is a task best tackled together!

Engineering proteins are a renewable polymer feedstock with great potential for use as versatile building blocks (“bio-nylon”) for substitution or tailored functionality. Their variability in structure and function (e.g. bonding, encapsulation, coating) makes them attractive to various industries (e.g. plastics, textiles, fine chemicals, construction chemicals, personal care) as a raw material base that contributes to resource sovereignty.

What is missing, is a centre of excellence covering the entire value chain of protein-based functional materials to enable rapid, data-driven material development. We want to tackle this, with you and for you, as part of the ProteinHub Pro-to-X

Curious? A brief introduction to the concept with the chance to ask your questions will take place on 6 May:

09:00 – 09:20           Morning coffee

11:40 – 12:00           Lunchdate

4.00 pm – 4.20 pm           Afternoon snack

The kick-off event for interested companies and influencers will take place on 15 June at Follmann-Chemie (Minden).

Strong solidarity for the industrial bioeconomy

As part of a joint initiative between Fraunhofer IGB, the Chair of Biotechnology at RWTH Aachen University and the Institute for Innovation Research, Technology Management & Entrepreneurship (Leibniz University Hannover), a Germany-wide ProteinHub network is intended to facilitate the comprehensive establishment of protein-based value chains. This initiative addresses chemical modifications as well as biotechnological methods for the production of tailor-made proteins. The collection of extensive data on functionalisation and processing is being addressed by the partner Fraunhofer IWM, supported by the outstanding expertise of the SKZ – The Plastics Centre in plastics modification and processing.
