Holz Regio 21: About us

Goals

Our aim is to strengthen the innovative power of forests and wood in the Thuringian Forest region and to develop sustainable solutions for the challenges of the future. Together with scientific and economic partners from the Rennsteig region, the Schwarzatal and neighbouring areas, we are working to preserve the forest as a landscape, economic and cultural asset and to exploit its diverse potential.

Focal points

  • Climate-resilient forest conversion: Establishing species-rich mixed forests that can withstand the challenges of climate change, supported by innovative monitoring and technology
  • Future building material wood: Promotion of wood as a sustainable building material that enables resource-conserving and energy-efficient construction methods
  • Raw timber value chain: Development of new utilisation and processing options to efficiently utilise regional raw materials and strengthen rural areas

With an interdisciplinary approach, we are committed to preserving biodiversity, promoting the sustainable use of wood and establishing the Thuringian Forest as a model wood region.
