Food and animal feed industry as well as chemical industry based on agriculture and forestry
in Potsdam and the surrounding area
In Potsdam and the surrounding area, the food and animal feed industry, the chemical industry, the building materials industry and the metal industry are particularly relevant in the field of the industrial bioeconomy. Up to 20 companies related to the industrial bioeconomy are located here. With its numerous research institutions, such as the Fraunhofer, Max Planck, Helmholtz and Leibniz Institutes and the University of Potsdam, the region is also one of the largest centres of science in Germany. This is reflected, among other things, in the bioeconomic transformation of the industrial landscape, particularly in the fields of electromobility, energy supply and nanotechnology. The transformation of the region towards a region based on renewable resources and green energies is progressing. The sustainability of raw material utilisation plays an important role here: the region has a flourishing agricultural and forestry sector.
There are also networks with players outside the region, both at national and international level.
